Proposals 2014
IIT Kharagpur will shortly be announcing the launch of an Innovations Centre to encourage innovations at the students’ level under an initiative by a Distinguished Alumnus Shri Arjun Malhotra on the 5th of November 2014. The innovations centre will house, along with various other infrastructures, a set of facilities to support realisation of some innovative projects conceived by student groups from their idea stage to a demonstrable proof-of-concept stage.
As a part of the launch initiative it has been decided to invite some projects from 1st year undergraduate students (who have joined in the year 2014) and announce awards of the selected projects.
The following may be taken in consideration while submitting proposals:
- The project proposals must be of a novel and original innovative concept involving any area(s) of Science and Engineering and should involve design and development of working prototypes in any area of Science and Engineering during the period November 2014 to May 2015.
- The proposals must be written in very clearly worded English
language with the following:
- Title of project and Team Name
- Objective(s)
- Methodology along with a timeline of plan of activities.
- Team Members and their roles.
- Deliverables.
- Tentative budgetary outline (max Rs 50,000).
- The write-up should not exceed two A4-size sheets (11pt font size) along with readable pictures.
- Project proposals may be submitted by groups of students from First Year only. Allowed group size would be around 3-4 students.
- The project proposals must show originality and plagiarism in any form will lead to disqualification.
- The expected duration of the project will be from November 10, 2014 - May 10, 2015.
- It is expected that a maximum number of ten Projects will be supported under this programme during the launch phase. These will be selected through a review process on a competitive basis.
- The selected Project teams will be provided space, funds and access to facilities coming up within Innovations Centre as well as any other facilities which can be availed within the Institute. The funds can be used for any consumable/contingency expenses which the Project may incur.
- Projects must be framed in a manner so that demonstrations of tangible outcomes are possible during interim evaluations before external experts in events like Alumni Meet, Kshitij (2015) etc.

Expected announcement of Project Awards (after review and evaluations): 5th November 2014.
